Abstract

The Bottom Line: Morocco was largely unaffected by regime-toppling movements that have swept northern Africa since 2011, as well as the global recession that preceded the Arab Spring. Economic and financial reform policies have earned the backing of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and a US$ 200 million loan from the World Bank, which in 2012 labelled Morocco the world's top economic reformer. Despite a monarchical government, the country has a strong middle class that demands political reforms and security.
