Abstract

The period covered by this latest edition of Africa Conflict Monitor (ACM) encompassed significant conflict, most notably the deadly attack by Somalia's Islamic fundamentalist group al-Shabaab on a university over the border in Kenya and bombings by al-Shabaab's counterpart in Nigeria, Boko Haram, which attempted to undermine the country's national elections. However, those elections succeeded with the transference of power from an incumbent to a challenging party for the first time in Nigeria's post-Independence history, and represented an intensified counterinsurgency effort as the new administration took aim at Boko Haram.
