Abstract

Nigeria's elections resulted in a shock defeat for incumbent Goodluck Jonathan and the long-reigning People's Democratic Party. President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, inherits a troubled economy, a corruption-wracked government, and above all, a challenging conflict with Boko Haram insurgents. A new government could, however, herald a fresh start for efforts to decisively neutralise the threat posed by the terror group.
