Fast-paced and diverse events unfolding mid-2015 seemed to put African leaders against their people, with a plethora of elected presidents in nominally-democratic countries tinkering with constitutions to allow longer stays in power, and the Africa Union (AU) acting as a club of privilege whose members look after each other no matter what bloodshed they cause. During this time the tension was highly apparent on the continent between Africans seeking accountable governance and leaders seemingly conspiring against that ideal. With analysis from Central and Southern Africa in particular, the July 2015 digs into the current and historical stories that inform this conflict.
