Abstract

While enjoying high growth in gross domestic product (GDP) and low occurrences of conflict, Zambia's lack of effective governance and economic freedom, along with an economic dependence on copper, could cause the country's economic growth to stagnate in the future. President Edgar Lungu has many issues to address in order to reform the country, such as the controversial Mining Tax Royalty, which will be all the more difficult in the coming months as Lungu also begins campaigning for Zambia's general elections which some observers speculate will be held in September 2016.
