Abstract

The high risk of terrorism reaching across the border from Somalia has hindered economic progress in Kenya. Business-unfriendly policies have made life in the private sector more difficult. A visit by US President Barack Obama in July 2015 helped improve Kenya's global image and resulted in a US pledge for more financial aid to fight Islamic terrorists. Kenya's economic indicators have deteriorated over the past several years, but analysts forecast economic growth in the country's viable sectors, like agriculture and energy, should Kenya's security situation improve.
