Abstract

The resignation of long-ruling Burkina Faso strongman Blaise Compaoré in October 2014 was an unprecedented West African triumph of people power. On 16 September 2015, the revolution was reversed when the Presidential Guard staged a coup d'état, arrested the Interim President Michel Kafando and Prime Minister Yacouba Zida and installed a junta, ironically called the 'National Democracy Council'.
