Abstract

The ACM January 2016 report examines the coalescing of regional and international players combining their efforts against terrorism. While insurgency and terror groups introduce chaos into countries from the outside, internal factors undermine national security from within, including power-hungry leaders. In the aftermath of the long rule of Robert Mugabe, China - in order to protect its investments in Zimbabwe - has made moves, if belatedly to push for a smooth succession. While in Rwanda, President Paul Kagame and his ruling party appear increasingly duplicious in their efforts to embolden their hold on power. Also examined in ACM Januay 2016 on a larger scale is the state of security along with Africa's continent-wide Sahel region.
