Abstract

Geographically constituting a continent-spanning arc from the Atlantic to East Africa and dozens of diverse populations, the Sahel region of North Africa possesses man-made security challenges common to its constituent countries. From organised crime and human trafficking to terror group insurgencies, region-wide threats require a regional response. ACM discussed these issues with Laurence-Aïda Ammour, an Algerian/French analyst with expertise in international security and defense affairs. She is one of IOA's expert consultants in North African affairs, and has previously worked with the likes of Oxford Analytica, the US State Department, AFRICOM, the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) and many others.
