Having bolstered democracy by holding a referendum that approved the shortening of presidential terms, President Macky Sall sought to increase military capacity through greater cooperation with the US. Robust economic growth has been supported by infrastructure development and increased agricultural production. Increasing foreign investment in the extractive industry has led to the discovery of significant gas reserves, which could allow Senegal to become self-sufficient in its energy production.
