Abstract

The International Bar Association (IBA) continues to consolidate its position as the leading international organisation and forum for lawyers world-wide. There are now 127 national bar associations and law societies which belong to the IBA as member organisations, including the General Council of the Bar (GCB) and Association of Law Societies (ALS) of South Africa. Individual membership is approaching 14 000 and the lawyers from Eastern Europe are joining in increasing numbers. There are at present some 160 individual members from South Africa.
