Abstract

May I, take this opportunity, to wish the editorial board members, contributors and readers of AGA a belated happy New Year. Last year was a year to remember for a long time. On the international front, the Arab spring changed the landscape of politics in the Middle East. There is still turmoil in the MENA region with the civil war in Syria still raging on. The financial crisis in Europe remains on cliff-edge with Greece moving towards third-world status. The Chinese economy is, no doubt, slowing down, however, China, which only a decade ago was seen as another failing "communist state", still remains the key broker in financial diplomacy. The old rivalry between India and Pakistan is raising its ugly head again with both countries eyeballing each other and on a brink of an all-out war that is not winnable by either side.
