Abstract

The first Fifa World Cup in Africa has come and gone. The event has exceeded every expectation with Fifa awarding it 9 out of 10. The continent and South Africa, in particular, has done its citizens and the rest of the world proud. Even the usually negative and sceptical European and Australian Press had nothing but praises for South Africa and the African continent. The success of the Fifa World Cup has gone a long way to prove that Africa can compete with the rest of the world in everything if the continent puts its mind to it. The continent can compete in all critical development areas including economics, finance, engineering, agriculture, sports and in every economic sector if put to the challenge. One particular area, of note, the continent is taking a pioneering role is development finance research and training.
