Abstract

The first decade of political independence in the greater part of Tropical Africa has not been able to fulfil its promises of economic abundance for all. As Africa enters the second decade of political independence the search for economic and social development as well as political order and stability continues. The purpose of this article is to look at the problems of under-development in tropical Africa from the point of view of the political institutions that the African states have opted for since independence to facilitate institutionalized political change.
