Abstract

On 20 May 1968, a mission led by Chief H.O. Davies, Nigeria's roving ambassador, flew into Lusaka with a personal message for President Kaunda from General Gowon. On arrival, it learned that Zambia had recognised Biafra as a sovereign and independent state during the course of the mission's journey from Nairobi. Chief Davies and his colleagues then departed on the same aircraft an hour later, followed in a few days time by the Nigerian High Commissioner to Zambia and his staff.
