Abstract

Ghana's distinction as the first black colony to attain independence, the opportunities for continental leadership flowing from this, and, even more importantly, Nkrumah's passionate Pan-Africanism,1 all explain the tremendous impact that he soon brought to bear on the liberation movement in Africa.
