Abstract

After the end of the Kiriji wars and the imposition of colonial rule on Ibadan in 1893, demobilized warriors and others sought land to farm in the hitherto uncultivated forest lands to the south of the city. The development of transport and marketing facilities stimulated farmers to adapt existing resources and institutions to meet the metropolitan demand for cocoa.
