This paper is an attempt to examine the effects of economic dependence on the foreign policy of African states with particular reference to Tanzania between 1961 and 1976. Studies of foreign policy have been concerned more with political factors than with the effects of economic dependence on foreign policy. The main argument of this paper is that economic dependence forms one of the major linkages between internal and international politics.
