Abstract

In most countries, the more favourable the political climate towards labour, the greater the degree of labour organisation. However, a favourable political climate does not necessarily afford equal participation and leadership opportunities for men and women. Dr Hazel Suchard, a lecturer in Business Economics at the University of the Witwatersrand, discusses some of the problems facing women in trade unions.
