Abstract

Tony Marais, lecturer in the Department of Economics at the University of the Witwatersrand, argues that there is no reason why government should have a monopoly in education and suggests an alternative paradigm, based on free market principles, to achieve objectives of equity and efficiency in education in South Africa.
