Abstract

The first general elections for South Africa's three chamber parliament under the new constitution, which came into effect on 3 September 1984, took place on 22 August for the House of Representatives (Coloured group) and on 28 August for the House of Delegates (Asian group). All Whites, Coloureds and Asians who are South African citizens and at least 18 years old are entitled to register as voters.
