One of the biggest challenges facing Rita Mabusela, social worker and training co-ordinator for the new SOS Children's Village in Mamelodi, near Pretoria, is finding ways to bridge the communication and generation gap between parents and children: a problem that has been highlighted by black student unrest. ""We are well aware that providing a home for about 120 children is a drop in the ocean if you look at the number of destitute children,"" says Rita. For this reason, she points out, it is important that the Village should have a wider scope of activities and that there should be interaction between Village and community.
