Abstract

This article compares the results of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) report on South Africa with the evaluation done on the same issues by three academics from different health professions. Four areas which closely affect health and health care (democracy and good political governance; economic governance and management; socio-economic development and corporate governance) were reviewed for evidence addressing the indicators in the review. The evidence found was summarised and then compared with the results reported by the APRM team. The process is discussed and recommendations made for future reviews and for the involvement of civil society in the process.
