Abstract

The title, , perfectly captures what this literary work embodies; the terrorfilled scenes which have become symbolic of the post-election violence in Kenya. This book attempts intellectual and artistic mediation in response to the violence that gripped the country following the botched December 2007 presidential elections. Sitawa Namwalie (penname for Betty Wamalwa Muragoli) tackles issues that have resonated in Kenyan politics : land, ethnicity and equal opportunities and distribution of national resources. Through this book's twenty-five poems and four critical essays, she endeavours to touch people of different backgrounds and social classes by stoking anger and directing that anger inward.
