Abstract

The music of Africa as a whole is still largely unknown to science. When discussing its use in education it is necessary to define one's terms and so avoid popular generalizations which may prejudice rational assessment. The term ""African music"" properly includes the genuine folk music of the continent which owes its origin to the innate musical genius of African people alone. Other music performed by Africans, however commendable, do not fall within this category.
