Abstract

The ""Labour explosion"" - the lagged impact of the population explosion - is one of the major problems facing Rhodesia in the 1970s and 1980s. Even if family planning and birth control programmes were to start to show positive results in the near future - which is improbable - the rapid growth of the Black population to date and its age structure would still constitute an extremely formidable problem for the economy, both in the fields of job creation and the provision of services, such as education, health and housing.
