Abstract

, by Chabani Manganyi is a seminal piece of scholarly work. The very title of the book - The beauty of the line - is remarkable in the sense that it is derived from a statement made by Feni himself when he was interviewed in the United States. He is quoted to have said: 'I am amazed by the onething that I am glad never left me â?? that is, the beauty of the line, the fine lines'. The concept of 'lines' is said to have been used by Joe Overstreet, a great admirer of Feni, who describedhim as having a 'strong line' that was 'extremely powerful', 'very definite about the way he looked at his work' and 'his own direction, his own mind'.
