Abstract

The problem of man's authentic existence, i.e., an existence where man's conflicts with nature or environment and with his fellowman have been largely overcome emerges from the changing circumstances of life as a result of man's thinking about the world and action in the world. In other words, the problem of man's authentic existence arises from man's historicity in the above sense of the word. Since it is man's thinking about the world and acting in the world that engender change, they form an integral part of reality, which is experienced by man as a dynamic process. Reality consists of a multiplicity of cultural projects which have come into existence as a result of man's thinking and acting in a particular existential situation. These projects are historical in that they take their origin in the basic experience of a specific group of men under particular circumstances of life, or what amounts to the same, a particular historical situation.
