Abstract

The author discusses the attempts made by the Nigerian Government in the post-independence era to reduce the wage differentials between the various occupational groups in the economy. He also examines the effects of level of skill and work capability on the wage differentials and whether the Government's efforts to close the wage gap are reflected in efforts to improve incomes through training programmes, such as vocational education and formal and informal on-the-job training schemes which enhance a worker's resource value and earning potential.
