Abstract

In South Africa one of the principal problems with regard to change appears to be how a white society rooted in the South African soil, can weather the conflict with blacks that has arisen as result of the clash between two different cultures, ways of life and thinking, i e Western civilization as opposed to African culture. This conflict which has existed ever since the first encounter between black and white on South African soil has been sharpened by the increasing impact of fast-developing Western science and technology on the black man's mind and his growing awareness of, and desire for, the functional and material values of the science and technology of the industrialised countries.
