Of the various racially defined groupings in Africa, whites have come in for their fair share of academic attention. Most of this attention has, however, been directed to an analysis of whites in situations characterised by white political dominance By contrast very little academic attention has been given to the contemporary role and status of the white in post colonial independent black Africa. Together with other elements of Africa's population, the white is faced with problems in finding a place in a new set of emerging cultural and social patterns, but his dilemma has the added dimension of change from superordinate to subordinate status.
