Abstract

The concepts of state and government forms are basic to any constitutional analysis while the concept of form of authority constitutes an important basis in macro-political analysis. Even so, these concepts are often confused and incorrect terminology is used. The concept ""form of state"" refers to the territorial distribution of power within a particular state and the relationship between the central authority and the local authorities. There are basically two forms of states - unitary and federal. The confederal form is not a form of state as such, but a form of cooperation between independent states.
