Reports on an investigation into the oxygen consumption, body temperature and wet thermal conductance of the lesser double-collared sunbird, Nectarinia chalybea. The report concludes that Winter breeding in the south-west Cape is energetically stressful for these sunbirds but that they have the physiological capacity to reduce their energy expenditure substantially at night.
