Abstract

The frog genus &lt;I&gt;Tomopterna&lt;/I&gt; (Anura : Ranidae) comprises eight described species distributed in Africa. Parsimony analyses of mitochondrial 12S and 16S rRNA gene sequence data were performed and a molecular phylogeny inferred. The phylogenetic relationships of the recently described <I>T. damarensis&lt;/I&gt; are discussed. A North African population previously reported as <I>T. cryptotis&lt;/I&gt; was found to be genetically closest to <I>T. delalandii</I>. Its species status remained unresolved.
