Abstract

This article discusses the position of the Western Cape agricultural sector in the light of a water scarcity problem. In general, a water scarcity situation could be managed through either restrictions and tariff increases (so called ""demand oriented approaches) or through capacity expansion schemes (supply oriented schemes). Both strategies have short and long term impacts in water use patterns.
