Abstract

The management of the flagship longterm rotation and cultivar evaluation trials of the Department of Agriculture in the Western Cape encapsulates many facets, which require extensive knowledge. In order to keep the rotation and cultivar trials relevant, it is necessary to broaden the knowledge base in these fields. It is imperative to stay abreast of the latest research trends and to analyse and discuss results obtained from our Australian counterparts in order to alleviate some of the pressing problems in the Western Cape grain-producing areas. It was due to this reason that the research visit to Western Australia was undertaken.
