Abstract

A mineralogical investigation of two soil profiles encountered on the basalt of the Springbok Flats revealed that these soils, which are generally accepted as being residual soils, actually contain a large amount of transported material. It could also be shown that the pedogenic clay distribution pattern of these soils is in fact the result of a pseudo-accumulation of clay caused by the process of argillipedoturbation which effectively incorporated the transported material into the soils.
