Abstract

A linear least squares multiple regression model as proposed by Daniel & Wood ( 1971) was applied to data collected from a saline-sodic soil reclamation trial in the Little Karoo. The results obtained by using soil chemical and physical properties as independent variables, and yield as well as income as alternate dependent variables indicate a heavy dependence of yield and quality of air-dry tobacco cultivar Piet Retief Swazi upon total salt content and modulus o f rupture o f the soil. Other soil variables were found to be less important in this particular case.
