Abstract

An emulsifiable concentrate of endosulfan was applied at 1,5 l/ha to cotton from an aircraft and from three kinds of ground sprayers mounted on tractors. The amounts of insecticide deposited on cotton, leaves, glass plates and paper cards were determined, together with the vertical and horizontal distribution of the deposits. It was found that some sprayers produced a much greater total deposit and better penetration of the leaf canopy than others. One ground sprayer was better in both respects than the aircraft. Aerial spraying gave a more even distribution over the swath than any of the ground sprayers. Deposits on glass plates and cards did not accurately indicate either the amounts or the vertical distribution of deposits on leaves.
