oa Agrochemophysica - Research note : exchange acidity as criterion for the liming of orchard soils in the Western Cape

Abstract

In an appreciable number of orchard soils with inherent low lime requirement, exchange acidity underestimated the lime requirement by a factor of up to 6,5 fold. These soils invariably contained large amounts of Ca and/or Mg and prediction of lime requirement could be improved considerably by inclusion of exchangeable (Ca+Mg) with exchange acidity in the equation. The regression coefficient for exchangeable (Ca+Mg) was positive.
