Abstract

The theory of thermocouple psychrometry is used to indicate the technique required for the measurement of water potential. A method for calibration of several types of sychrometer is outlined in terms of instrument characteristics, measurement techniques and calculation of water potential from measurements. Erroneous results occur because of inadequate equilibration time, contamination of the psychrometer, incorrect readings of the output voltage of the microvoltmeter, and insufficient attention to temperature effects.
