Abstract

Studies of the production and persistence of malonaldehyde in irradiated mealie meal have shown that this compound can be used as an indicator of irradiation of the meal for up to 15 days after irradiation. Provided the mealie meal is exposed to doses lower than 100 krad and the time of irradiation is known, the dose can be estimated to within 10 krad.
