Abstract

Two lots of flue-cured tobacco were graded according to two different grading systems. Irrespective of the grading system it was shown that a close relationship exists between grade, quality as based on price and the physical and chemical properties of the different grades. Although these relationships exist, physical and chemical properties cannot replace the more comprehensive organoleptic evaluation but they are of value to substantiate findings and to clarify problems where organoleptic means fail to differentiate.
