oa Agrochemophysica - A method of predicting the calibration curve for a neutron moisture meter

Calibration curves for different soil types vary greatly with regard to intercept and slope. The intercepts of the calibration curves of the soils used in this study showed a good linear relationship with the loss of mass on ignition of the oven-dry soil after removal of the organic matter. Likewise, the slopes of these calibration curves showed a good linear relationship with the percentage soil particles with a diameter of less than 0,01 mm. By using these two linear relationships, a universal calibration curve for the neutron moisture meter can be constructed which obviates the need for tedious calibrations on different soils.
