The need, by a variety of environmental scientists in Southern Africa, to express incoming solar radiation fluxes on sloping terrain in quantitative terms having been established, a theoretical framework of solar radiation interception on uneven surfaces is first set out and then applied, together with empirical work already undertaken in Southern Africa, in the construction of a series of nomographs.
