Abstract

Endosulfan was found to be a pollutant of rivers and streams draining the Loskop Dam irrigation area. The level of pollution was normally low; however, high concentrations of endosulfan were found after accidental spillage. The aquatic fauna could not be used as indicators of pollution due to Changes in habitat caused by summer floods. Toxicity of endosulfan was high against all aquatic species tested. The growth of Sarotherodon mossambicus was not affected by sublethal concentrations of endosulfan.
