Abstract

The term"" Codling Moth"" is the generally accepted popular name for an insect which in its caterpillar stage is the most important insect pest of apple and pear fruits. It became established in the Midlands of Cape Colony prior to 1893, and about Cape Town and Stellenbosch prior to 1897. Until about 1900, however, it was not widespread in the country.
