Abstract

The systematic inspection of introduced fruits by the Transvaal Department of Agriculture has been instrumental in bringing to light the occurrence in South Africa of Apple Bitter Rot, a fungus disease notorious for the heavy losses which it occasionally inflicts in parts of the United States. Affected fruits were discovered in a consignment of apples which arrived at Johannesburg from Port Elizabeth late in March last.
