Abstract

Health care is rendered in complex, culturally diverse settings. Health professionals are faced with cultural differences between themselves and their clients, and amongst themselves. Influences of the institutional culture of the workplace and values inherent in medical science further complicate relations in health care settings. There are differences in world view, social orientation, time orientation and perceptions of space. Health and sickness are viewed from varied cultural perspectives and this influences expectations about appropriate health care.
