oa Africa Journal of Nursing and Midwifery - A nursing response to the AIDS crisis
Abstract
A humane and ethical response is needed to address the needs of people dying from AIDS. Nurses are in a key position to implement quality nursing care for such vulnerable individuals. Emphasis must be on the early discharge of patients, which enables them to be cared for at home by competent family members, should be practised. This will prevent hospital based AIDS care crowding out spending on other life saving, cost-effective programmes.
